Badger Groups,
books about badgers, badger holidays, orgainised badger watching and
maybe a little bit more....
There are several badger groups in the Yorkshire area. Read on to discover if there is a badger group near to you.
The Badger by Ernest Neal was first published in 1948 and cost 12s 6d. Since that time, with the help of camera traps, we have discovered more about our stripey friends and many books have followed since one of the first pioneers, Ernest Neal
Fancy a week in a log cabin with badgers on your doorstep every night, then we may have something right up your street !
If you don't fancy sitting in a forest by yourself, then why not go on an organised badger watch? Or if you are interested in photography, we know a couple of places you can visit.
EAST YORKSHIRE BADGER PROTECTION GROUP - is a long established group with many years experience in badger related issues. They have a dedicated team who go over and above to help badgers and quite recently travelled many miles quite late at night to help a poor badger who had been knocked down.
EYBPG are both well equipped and experienced in handling injured badgers. They work on a voluntary basis and have access to both Vets and wildlife rescues ensuring the badger's welfare is always first and foremost.
Their website is: www.eastyorksbadgers.co.uk
Year after year we return to Scotland and have found some wonderful cabins and cottages where wildlife including badgers (of course) red deer, red squirrels and pine martens abound.
Unlike commercial hides where everything is set up for you including food, here, you are on your own and totally dependent on your own wildlife watching skills to see these animals as they visit your cottage on a nightly basis. So ......
First up: Glen Strathfarrar near Beauly, Inverness. This is a very special Glen. It is privately owned and it is gated. Anyone staying in the cabins will be given a key to access the Glen. There's no wifi, no television and very bad phone signal, so if you can't live without these things, this is not for you. Most of the nocturnal images taken on this website are from Glen Strathfarrar, but it took patience and a lot of effort to set up ! The Glen is beautiful and in late Autumn, with the rare Aspens, it is beyond stunning.
Glen Strathfarrar at Struy in the Scottish Highlands is a truly magical place with badgers, red deer, eagles, pine martens and stunning scenery.
If you would like to see badgers on your front door step, Red Deer stags on your back doorstep and otters in the Loch, then a cottage at Rahoy may just be the place you're looking for.
Getting there involves a short ferry journey on the Corran Ferry over to the Ardnamurchan peninsular, although you can take the long way round by car but it adds about one hour to your journey.
As with Glen Strathfarrar, there is no TV, no internet and no phone signal at Rahoy but who cares when you get amazing wildlife and stunning scenery. BOOK EARLY!
